LFE
The strength of LFE, the third largest wine importer in the Netherlands, lies primarily in its people. They cherish them with continuous attention to development, guidance and training. But how continuous is it if there is a progress meeting once a year? LFE felt that this should and could be done differently. The management team developed a new contemporary HR vision and ambition. Treams was brought in as a knowledge partner to translate this ambition into a conversation cycle focused on development.
LFE
Founded in 1968, LFE has played a leading role in the Dutch wine trade for over 50 years. As a 100% subsidiary of the French wine company Castel Groupe and with a turnover of more than 80 million euros and with dozens of wineries and thousands of wines in our assortment, LFE's more than 60 employees work day-in-day-out to fulfill the wine wishes of our customers as optimally as possible.
Reason for renewal
Because of her love for HR, Isabella, together with colleague Frank den Hartog director business
process management, was closely involved in the implementation of the new HR vision. Colleague
Marlene Uijttewaal, account assistant retail, was also involved in the preliminary process. She finds personal
development very important and because of the lack of clarity regarding this issue, she also joined
the team. Frank: 'The main reason for renewal was that we want the
employees to be more in the lead in their own development. More looking ahead in
instead of assessing afterwards. Our old system of assessment and development was not
up to date. It was all rather static. Once a year there were interviews,
results were noted in Excel. It no longer matched both our ambition as an
organization and the wishes of our people. We wanted to move much more towards a discussion cycle
focused on continuous development and much less on assessment. We were looking for a tool that makes an
active contribution to a culture in which it feels safe to give each other feedback and
compliments.'

Wishes LFE in brief:
∙ Look ahead more instead of assessing in retrospect
∙ No more keeping static lists in Excel
∙ Move toward continuous assessment instead of one annual appraisal
∙ Give employees more responsibility for their own development
"We wanted to move much more toward a conversation cycle focused on continuous development and much less on assessment. We were looking for a tool that would actively contributes to a culture where it feels safe to give each other feedback and compliments."

Looking for knowledge partner
To give this hands and feet, the MT engaged an HR consultancy to
first of all formulate a new vision and ambition together: Where do we want to go and what do
we think is important? The new vision reads: Learning = development = growth = sustainable cooperation.
The ambition is that all employees are consciously working to make themselves, their colleagues and LFE
grow. Based on this, LFE and Shapr started looking for the right partner who
could support them to translate this into daily practice. From a selection of three
parties, the choice fell on Treams. Frank: 'In terms of party they fit us very well. The software is
very well put together and has been developed from a customer perspective.
Moreover, during the conversations we had with
them, we noticed that they were also very good at helping us in terms of content. Treams
provides software, but is not a software company that just provides a tool. No, Treams has very
clear knowledge of HR and how to stimulate people to work on their own
personal development and goals. They are therefore a very nice knowledge partner who
thinks along, but above all dares to be critical. This has certainly helped us to think about
what we as LFE find important in the development of our people. And, not
entirely unimportant, there was a click.
Learning points
Once the choice of Treams was made, several sessions followed on how
to best set up and implement the all-in-one Treams platform
within LFE. During these discussions, Isabella quickly experienced the added value of
Treams. 'We ourselves had certain ideas about the setup, but Treams also has a
clear vision and a lot of experience. For example, to start the good
conversation with each other as manager and employee, Treams advised to have
share the answers with each other at least a few days in advance. We initially let this go, but
now experience in practice that this does help with preparation and thus to have a really
good conversation. Another learning point was that managers could only ask three questions in the tool
. We are now expanding that too.' Cooperation with Treams was
intensive throughout the process. 'I had weekly contact with Luciënne van de Kar. Also, our
ICT department was well guided during the implementation of the software. We had a superuser
training and when the platform was ready for use, Marlene and I organized a kick-off
day where the Treams platform was introduced to everyone.'
First experience
Since spring 2023, LFE has been working with the Treams platform. How do employees
experience this new way of giving each other feedback? Are there any learning points? Marlene: "First of all, the platform is
very user-friendly. Everyone within LFE, from manager to warehouse employee,
can work well with it. Personally, I find the platform very easy to use. And I also see that back
in our statistics. Treams is used regularly and most
managers log in weekly. Some 80 percent of employees have now had a
conversation and 189 compliments have been given among themselves. Also nice to see is that the
half of our employees have already requested feedback on their own initiative from one or more
colleagues. The beginning is there!

How to move forward?
Isabella sees that some of the people have enthusiastically started using the feedback tool,
another part still needs some extra encouragement. 'It is now up to us to guide people in this
more. In this we are assisted by Treams. For example, I recently went to
a community day of Treams. It's great to spar with other
companies. Furthermore, we want to give another refresher presentation and are planning to send an internal monthly mailing to
with tips & trics. And for the team leaders we are organizing deep dive workshops to learn from each other how to motivate our teams to start the good conversation
'.
